Lighting — 8 procedural environments

Eight studios, painted at runtime

No HDR downloads, no license files. Each environment is a 1024×512 panorama drawn in a canvas at load time, then PMREM-processed into reflections. The demos below render live with the environment doubled as background — drag to orbit.

01 — Environment

Studio

The neutral reference light. Speculars stay white and symmetric — the best choice when the material is the story.

Paint recipe
Grey cyclorama gradient + one large overhead softbox + two side strips, one warm and one cool.
Pairs best with
Chrome, platinum, diamond
Light with Studio

02 — Environment

Sunset

Long warm highlights on one side, cool shadows on the other. The most dramatic metal light in the set.

Paint recipe
Violet-to-orange horizon gradient with a low sun blob and a wide warm halo.
Pairs best with
Gold, copper, amber gradients
Light with Sunset

03 — Environment

Dawn

Cool ambient with a whisper of warmth. Flatters glass, clay and pastel plastics without saturating them.

Paint recipe
Steel-blue to peach sky with a single soft pre-sunrise glow.
Pairs best with
Glass, clay, pastel gummy
Light with Dawn

04 — Environment

Night

Reflections collapse to pinpoints — emissive presets and oil-slick iridescence own this environment.

Paint recipe
Near-black sky, 90 scattered stars, one moon blob and a faint ground bounce.
Pairs best with
Neon, gunmetal, oil slick
Light with Night

05 — Environment

Shop

Striped speculars wrap around extrusions like an appliance showroom. Excellent on brushed and ribbed metals.

Paint recipe
Warm paper-grey room with five horizontal fluorescent strips and a broad floor bounce.
Pairs best with
Brushed steel, corrugated, carbon
Light with Shop

06 — Environment

Woods

Diffuse green ambient plus one directional beam — organic metals and woods read natural here.

Paint recipe
Green canopy gradient with a warm shaft of light breaking through.
Pairs best with
Oak, walnut, cast metal
Light with Woods

07 — Environment

Loft

Directional daylight with warm fill. The editorial default for velvet, brass and clay.

Paint recipe
Brick-warm interior with tall window light from one side.
Pairs best with
Velvet, brass, terracotta
Light with Loft

08 — Environment

City

Dozens of tiny speculars — chrome and glass pick up a full skyline. Enable 'environment as background' for the full shot.

Paint recipe
Dark blue street with rows of warm window lights and a horizon glow.
Pairs best with
Chrome, diamond, piano black
Light with City
